Multilingual Integration Counsellor 

Bienvenue à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is looking for three multilingual integration counsellor

Langues desired: Amharic, Arabic, Hindi, Romanian, Tagalog, Tigrigna.

Object: The multilingual integration counsellor will work directly with immigrants, and especially with members of cultural communities living in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood.

Description of tasks :

  • Meet immigrant persons and families through various partner organisations, events or social spaces of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and encourage their participation in the activities of the organisation.
  • Find ingenious ways to better reach immigrants living in NDG.
  • Work in close collaboration with the community centres of the neighbourhood, welcome newcomers families that frequent the centres and inform them about the different steps of the integration process (particularly administrative procedures) as well as the resources available within the NDG community as well as the community at large. 
  • Establish an integration plan with the participants based on their needs, with a holistic view, both personally and professionally and ensure follow-ups with the participants.
  • Create, translate and distribute multimedia documents and materials such as flyers or brochures in order to promote the different programmes and services offered.
  • Translate information and present it during social activities and workshops held by the organisation.
  • Organise and lead programmes, services and special events that strengthen and encourage community participation and develop intercultural relations(festivals, socio-cultural events, group activities and workshops, outreach kiosks, to name a few examples).
  • Actively support the organisation’s francization program, particularly with regard to registration, follow-up and information service for students through in person, written and by telephone.
  • All other related tasks

Qualifications and skills of the ideal candidate:

  • Education: Undergraduate college or university degree in a relevant field or work experience deemed equivalent
  • Good knowledge of French and English. 
  • Excellent sense of initiative and resourcefulness. Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and time-management skills.
  • Interest in community setting and the integration of immigrants.
  • Experience in intervention, leading group activities and event organisation.
  • Knowledge of the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district and / or living in NDG is an asset.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and the Google suite.

 

What we offer : 

  • Starting date : as soon as possible; Full-time position (35 hrs/ week); Duration of contract : 1 yr, with possibility of renewal. 
  • Starting hourly salary between 17,32$ and 26$, to be determined according to the qualification and experience. 
  • Vacation days : 4% till the third year of work and a gradual increase from the fourth year. 
  • Personal days : 10 days
  • Public holidays : 13 days, including 4 days during Christmas.

Bienvenue à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is looking for two (2) Technical Support Assistants for a temporary (8 weeks) full-time position (30 hours per week) funded by the federal government. 

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS: 

Under the supervision of the person in charge of the project, the technical support assistant offers support to the participants of the Bienvenue à Notre-Dame-de-Grâce programs, in order to strengthen their digital skills and facilitate their understanding and use of websites. internet and access to public and institutional websites and services. 

DUTIES: 

  • Answer questions by chat, email or phone. 
  • Train and provide training to immigrant families in computer literacy. 
  • Writing, editing and reviewing training manuals for new and updated software and hardware. Provide technical support for questions and issues 
  • Troubleshoot problems with networks and other computer systems. 
  • Diagnose system errors and other problems. 
  • Follow up with participating families to ensure full resolution of issues. 
  • Ask for feedback and/or monitor calls and other correspondence methods to improve training methods. 
  • Run reports to analyze common complaints and issues. 
  • Installation or modification of software to resolve problems. 
  • Remote access to hardware or software for customers to make changes and resolve issues. 

REQUIREMENTS and REQUIRED PROFILE 

Since this is a 8-week contract funded by the Government of Canada with strict requirements to provide employment opportunities specifically to citizens and residents under the age of 30, we must award the mandate to a person between the age of 18 and 30 and who holds a citizenship or permanent residence permit or refugee status. International students are unfortunately not eligible for this program. 

  • Good command of French and English – a third language is an asset 
  • Good knowledge of the Windows Suite, Microsoft Office 
  • Strong writing and communication skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, communication and time-management skills. Excellent customer approach 
  • Ability to collaborate with different interlocutors 
  • Excellent sense of initiative and resourcefulness.

WORKING CONDITIONS 

Type of employment: Full time, temporary 

Salary: $16/hour 

Contract duration: 8 weeks 

Working hours: 30 hours per week, flexible/changing schedule. 

Start date: as soon as possible.
