Bienvenue à NDG offers French classes designed to help newcomers gain confidence, improve communication skills, and integrate successfully into everyday life in Quebec. Since May 2026, we now offer a full-time French classes to better respond to the needs of students with different schedules and learning goals.

Our full-time French classes provide an immersive learning experience for students who want to progress more quickly, while our part-time options offer flexibility for those balancing work, family, or other responsibilities. With experienced teachers, interactive activities, and a supportive environment, our programs help students develop practical French skills they can use in daily life, work, and community activities.

French courses offered by the Government of Quebec are free. Incentive financial assistance is also offered to eligible individuals, under certain conditions.

Bienvenue à NDG is a proud partner of the Government of Quebec to offer French learning services:

  • part-time;
  • full-time;
  • beginner, intermediate or advanced level;
  • in person or distance learning;
  • morning, afternoon, evening or weekend.

Eligibility Requirements

Our French courses are offered free of charge to individuals who meet the following criteria:

  • You were born outside of Canada
  • You are 16 years of age or older
  • You live in Quebec

Who can participate

  • immigrants and newcomers to Quebec
  • permanent and temporary residents
  • refugees and asylum seekers
  • sponsored immigrants
  • individuals eligible regardless of years in Canada

Yes. Immigrants who have lived in Canada for more than 5 years can register for the Government of Quebec’s part-time French program.

To complete your registration, you must present an official document confirming your immigration status, such as:

  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Canadian Citizenship Certificate
  • Confirmation of Permanent Residence
  • Valid Work Permit
  • Valid Study Permit
  • Quebec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ)
  • Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ)
  • Official Asylum Seeker Document

The program is designed to last a total of 12 months, with 4 sessions.
Each session lasts 11 weeks.

Yes. The Government of Quebec offers financial assistance to immigrants who enroll in full-time French courses.

This support may help cover your participation in the courses as well as childcare expenses for your children or care expenses for a dependent person with a disability. It is recommended to apply for financial assistance at the beginning of the session.

However, you have up to 60 days after the start of your courses to submit your application. If you receive financial assistance, you must include the amounts received in your annual income tax return with Revenu Québec and the Canada Revenue Agency.

You can receive $230 per week.

Yes. When applying for citizenship, you can use your attestation as proof of language knowledge.

However, you need to have a certain level. You can find more here.

No. Certificates or results obtained through French language courses are not accepted as official proof of language proficiency for a permanent residence application. For this type of application, you must submit the results of an official language test recognized by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada).

Our French courses are offered during 4 sessions per year:

  • Spring 2026 – May 6 to July 15, 2026
  • Summer 2026 – September 2 to November 11, 2026
  • Autumn 2026 – November 18, 2026 to February 10, 2027
  • Winter 2027 – February 17 to May 5, 2027

FRENCH COURSES Registration

FREE FULL-TIME FRENCH COURSES
SUMMER SEASON 2026

September 2 to November 11, 2026

Duration

11 weeks of classes per session

Schedule

  • 25 to 30 hours of classes per week
  • Monday to Friday
  • between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

It is required that the students who studied French abroad or in Quebec in an institution not recognized by the Government of Quebec, take the evaluation test.
After your registration, you will be contacted by the MIFI through the platform Apprendre le français in order to take the evaluation test.

The evaluation is not required for the following categories of students:
– Students who have no knowledge of French
– Students who have taken French language courses in the last 12 months in an institution recognized by the Government of Quebec
– Students who can present the official transcripts of their completed French courses in the 12 last months done an institution recognized by the Government of Quebec

Common Questions about Free French Classes in Quebec

Yes. The Government of Quebec courses are free! This linguistic integration program is mainly addressed to Permanent Residents, Naturalized Canadian Citizens, Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Temporary Residents such as holders of a temporary work permit or international students.

Yes, international students are eligible for the French courses since July 1st 2019.

Unfortunately, visitors or tourists are not eligible. The Government of Quebec French courses are mainly addressed to immigrants with permanent status.

You will need to register for another session.
